AMSTERDAM

Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin. -John Green

In our European travels, we always have a layover in Amsterdam and each time we’re there we always say “one day we’ll spend some time here.” So we decided before our time in Hamburg, Germany, we would spend a couple of days exploring Amsterdam. I won’t tell you if we “found sin” in the city. But if you guys know us, you know the answer is…

While in Amsterdam, we stayed in the lovely boutique Pulitzer Hotel. It sits right on the canal and combines modern with historic touches. It’s centrally located, so the perfect spot for whatever museum you feel like walking or biking to that day.

Yes, that is a piano hanging from the ceiling in the entryway of the hotel.

We spent most of our time walking the canals, popping into a museum or two, and window shopping. Only really having a day and a half, we just wanted to get a feel of the city.

One of our favorite rooms in the hotel was the library lounge at the Pulitzer Bar with different kinds of games – one of those games being chess. So Paul and I would have happy hour with our new favorite drink, the Sazerac (at least mine), and play chess.

On our final day, the sun came out which was perfect for our afternoon of taking a peddle boat around the canals! We had a blast seeing the city from a different perspective.

It’s Amsterdam… so the trip wouldn’t be complete without walking the Red Light District. We did and now we’re good. Besides, we heard this city had a great food scene – and let’s be honest, we love our food…
