TASTE OF AMSTERDAM

Anyone who’s a chef, who loves food, ultimately knows that all that matters is: ‘Is it good? Does it give pleasure?’ -Anthony Bourdain

What is an absolute breakfast must in the Netherlands? You said it – Dutch pancakes at Pancakes Amsterdam. And yes, they are even better than you imagine.

Our first evening, we decided to stay close and eat at Jansz, the Pulitzer’s restaurant. A stylish contemporary restaurant that serves beautifully crafted modern classics with a laid back Dutch influence. We loved the vibe of the restaurant – casual with outstanding food and service.

The smell of fresh frites on every corner is strong enough to lure you in. Frites count as lunch, right? For us, they sure did. It’s worth standing in line. Believe me.

Our second night, we went to the coolest tasting menu restaurant. We had passed it a few times from our hotel walking around the block and decided we had to try it. It just looked way too sexy not to! We’re a little skeptical about tasting menu spots as we’re a little picky with our food, but “when in Amsterdam”. And I’m so glad we did. Envy’s philosophy is this (and the last line is my favorite):

“Let our guests taste the finest products and purest ingredients possible. Sometimes simple and sometimes with a gastronomic touch, combined or on their own but always full of flavor. Be surprised and ‘envited’ from the beginning ‘till the moment you leave our restaurant. All dishes and drinks have the same purpose: to seduce you!”

The second we found out there was a Cecconi’s at the Soho House Amsterdam, it was game over. If you’re an Italian lover and you haven’t been to the one on Melrose in West Hollywood, GO. The food here was fabulous and it did not disappoint.

Our food experience in Amsterdam way surpassed our expectations, and look forward to the next time we can eat our way through!
