Cooking is a caring and nurturing act. It’s kind of the ultimate gift for someone, to cook for them. It creates all this beautiful stuff, conversation, appreciation, romance. All the most important things in life you do around a dinner table. -Curtis Stone
Outstanding In The Field – a radical alternative to the conventional dining experience.
We heard about this food adventure from friends who had experienced it first hand. Once we heard food and wine pairing dining experience in a beautiful atmosphere, we knew we had to check it out! The concept of “outstanding in the field” is they travel to beautiful destinations around the world and have renowned chefs and artisans prepare food with local ingredients, all while enjoying your surroundings. A true farm to table dining experience.

This year was the first time OITF had done anything in Big Sur, and it was the most epic destination spot you could think of. We took an hour bus ride up the winding roads of the Big Sur mountains and ended up at the top of our hosts’, Suzy and John Moon, farm land.
The first hour or so was cocktail hour with local libations and canapés, while we admired the views.

The iconic long white table setting is even more spectacular in person than in photos. I love the concept of sharing a meal with all different kinds of people. But the one thing we all have in common is our love for food and wine. It’s lovely to know that something so simple, like food, can bring so many people together.

Local ingredients for our fabulous multi-course dinner.
As if the food, company and views weren’t enough, we were blessed with the most epic sunset I have ever seen! A clear night with a fiery sun and cotton candy colored skies.

Our loving restaurant without walls is rebuilt every morning and disappears every night. It is a momentary experience and a joyful celebration of human connection. Together we gather at one long table to share the most fundamental and universal human conversation: a meal.
